Summer Getaway Planner: Take a Trip to the Tri-County Fair
Now that it’s officially summer, we here at Platinum PR are looking forward to all of our favorite summertime activities and events—like weekend barbecues, beach trips and, of course our favorite county fairs!
While it’s safe to say that county fairs and festivals are popular all across the country, this year we’ve got our sights set on Grant County, West Virginia, where the 94th annual Tri-County Fair is happening July 26 through August 2.
At just a few hours’ drive from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland, Grant County offers everything you need for a perfect summer getaway. Visitors can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery and tranquility of the Potomac Highlands, experience thrills like kayaking along the Potomac River and tour outdoor attractions like Dolly Sods Wilderness Area, the North Fork Mountain Trail and Smoke Hole Caverns.
The Tri-County Fair is a remarkable collaboration between Hardy, Grant and Pendleton counties. Originally started in 1920, the fair features a carnival, agricultural and livestock exhibits, a sixty-four team cornhole tournament, a scholarship pageant and an antique tractor pull in addition to locally and nationally known musical acts.
This year’s entertainment lineup includes headlining country-music duo Montgomery Gentry set to play on July 29. Born and raised in Kentucky, Montgomery Gentry has produced more than twenty chart singles on the Billboard Hot County Songs charts, including five No. 1 hits. Ten more of the duo’s songs have charted in the top ten on country charts, including the most-played song by a duo in 2005 (“Gone”). Three of the duo’s albums have been certified platinum: Tattoos & Scars (1999), My Town (2002) and You Do Your Thing (2004). Both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music nominated Montgomery Gentry each year between 2000 and 2009 for Duo of the Year awards, and the album Back When I Knew It All (2008) was nominated by the ACM for Album of the Year.
For most of the Tri-County Fair events, entry is free. Tickets for the Montgomery Gentry show, however, start at $10 and are available at www.Tri-CountyFair.com or at the South Side Depot in Petersburg, West Virginia.
The Tri-County Fair takes place at the Tri-County Fairgrounds at 107 Rig Street, Petersburg, West Virginia. For more information about the Tri-County Fair, visit www.Tri-CountyFair.com.
