So, what is this Kickstarter thing all about?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard a thing or two (or three) about Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects.

Here’s how it works: Creative people such as artists and musicians have a project they want to complete, so they start a Kickstarter campaign asking for pledges to reach their financial goal. IF the goal is reached, individuals who pledged a monetary pledge receive what are usually really awesome pledge rewards.

It is a great way for artists to raise funds to make their dreams come true. PPR Strategies is currently working with two clients on their Kickstarter campaigns, who are both, coincidentally, named Chelsea.

On August 1, 2013 Shepherdstown, W.Va. bluegrass musician Chelsea McBee, along with her band The Random Assortment, launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $3,000 to complete her latest project, The Whiskey Album. She describes her music as “whiskey-infused, bluegrass folk.”

Chelsea Reidy, a writer, and Elayna Snyder, an illustrator, both Frederick, MD residents, launched a Kickstarter campaign on August 10, 2013 in order to raise enough funds to travel to Japan’s ancient temple pilgrimage route to collect supplies for their mulit-media book, Temple by Temple.

We love seeing, and helping with, creative projects in our community. If you’d like to do the same, please check out Chelsea McBee’s Kickstarter campaign here, and Chelsea Reidy’s Kickstarter campaign here.
