FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Weekend of BBQ, Bluegrass, and Panhandle fun is here!

2010 Pickin’ in the Panhandle is this weekend, Sept. 10- 12

Martinsburg, West Virginia:  The fourth annual Pickin’ in the Panhandle kicks off this Friday and the excitement for good music and good food is growing. Over 15 bands such as Ricky Skaggs, Joe Diffie, Shenandoah, and Mountain Heart will be found on stage throughout the weekend of Sept. 10- 12.  In addition, professional barbeque teams will compete to become the coveted WV State Barbeque champion while backyard teams will vie for cash prizes, trophies and braggin’ rights.

The Martinsburg CVB now has a YouTube channel with videos highlighting activities at the festival, found at http://www.youtube.com/martinsburgcvb. There you can see different aspects the festival has to offer- from different food vendors, pick up jam band sessions and arts and crafts.

Some of the professional BBQ teams that will be competing for the first time this year include the D.C. Fire Fighters’ own team as well as TLC’s Tuffy Stone of “BBQ Pitmasters” fame.

Local bands and West Virginia natives such as Lonesome Highway, Missy Raines and the New Hip, the Back Creek Valley Boys, as well as last year’s amateur band competition winners, Clowes and Dunlap Band, will all be performing.

All weekend long, we’ll be tweeting live from the event at @PanhandlePickin and updating the Pickin’ in the Panhandle Facebook page as well as encouraging bloggers and tweeters to get involved and share their experiences. And for the social media savvy, be sure to check- in on FourSquare. Check- in to your FourSquare for special deals only available for  users.

The gates open Friday at 8 a.m. to campers and BBQ competitors. Gates will open to the general public at 4 p.m. and parking is free! Tickets are $50 for the weekend and kids under 12 receive free admission. Bring your lawn chair, grab the kids, and ‘que the music for the 2010 Pickin’ in the Panhandle!
