The importance of embracing virtual communications

Remember when it seemed like lockdown would last about a month or two? Here we are, nearly 7 months later.

During this time, the terms “pivot” and “new normal” became an everyday part of our language as businesses and organizations have had to figure out how to keep going under new restraints and circumstances.

As we face the unknown together, how can you take advantage of the changes we’ve all had to make and use them to reach your next goals?

Yes, we are all waiting, hoping, and wishing to be able to gather together in person again one day soon. And, it’s important to embrace virtual communications right now and for the future.

As we look ahead at the next 2, 5, 10 years and beyond, technology will continue to take a greater and greater front seat in business and marketing.

There’s never been a more important time to get comfortable on digital platforms. This will continue to serve you in the many years to come – with or without a pandemic.

Here are a few examples of how we’ve helped our clients pivot using virtual platforms:

  • Helping clients communicate with their customers virtually on a day-to-day basis – Video conference calls on platforms like Zoom are not just for big important calls or special occasions. They can be used in 1:1 meetings as well. By having video meetings regularly, you can get more comfortable with this technology – like figuring out the lighting, taking nonverbal cues from others, using private and public chat functions, and seeing your own face on the computer screen.
  • Helping organizations hold major conferences online – Many organizations have had to move multi-day conferences online. We’ve helped our client MEDA move their conference into a virtual format, rehearse before the conference, and we’re providing tech support. • Helping clients take advantage of borderless communications – Now, you can have meetings and discussions with prospects regardless of distance. You can then use those tactics to strengthen relationships with businesses down the street.
  • Facilitating courses, webinars, and special events – We’ve been offering webinar facilitation and tech support for clients so that they can confidently run webinars smoothly. This includes virtually hosting the 5-Day Chesapeake Basic Economic Development Course that had previously been in person in Baltimore, as well as hosting a special awards ceremony in our local community.

Video calls used to be primarily for special occasions – now they’ve become an important way to deliver meetings, courses, and events online.

By embracing these video platforms, organizations can continue to move forward with important goals, expand relationships, and find new ways to be efficient.

If you’ve had resistance to virtual communications before, now is the time to embrace what’s possible on these platforms!

In next week’s blog post, I’ll share some specific tips about how to use Zoom (or other video conference platforms) confidently and effectively.

If you’re trying to figure out how to better use digital platforms to help your organization expand and grow, hit reply to find out how to get our support.
