Fresh Start, Fresh Self-marketing; Start 2011 with a Bang!

Every year we hear the hype of a new year, a fresh start and clean slates. But, this year- do something about it.

  • Set realistic goals and keep track of your progress. Many people focus solely on long-term goals. However, it is healthy to keep a balance of both short-term and long-term goals so that you will not be easily discouraged. Short-term goals allow you to focus on the present, and long-term goals allow you to set your sights on the future If you have a combination of the two, you will feel driven to achieve both so that your current life and future are fulfilling. Keep track of the goals that you achieve as well as those you are striving to accomplish. A calendar or organizer are common tools for keeping track of goals, but blogs or even social media applications can be used for this purpose.
  • Get organized in both your professional and personal life. This is a very common resolution each year. Yet, we still find ourselves searching for new tips and tricks so that our lives will have a little more order. Some of the best tips for keeping things structured are making a to-do list or keeping a calendar (this can be done on paper or on the computer), clearing out your desk and workspace (this includes email inbox), and giving yourself enough time to complete each task. Most importantly, don’t get discourage and be sure to reward yourself for getting things accomplished!
  • Try new things and be creative. A new year is a perfect opportunity to do things that you haven’t done before. You can take a class that you’ve always wanted to take or read a book that you never had the chance to read. Travel for a change of scenery and a chance to revitalize. Pamper yourself. In regards to work, think of a new marketing strategy or investigate a new form of social media. Apply for a new position or volunteer at a non-profit organization. These opportunities will not only enhance your resume, but they will also give you a chance to explore your interests.
